Questions to Ask Your Wedding DJ

In today’s post, I’m sharing questions to ask your wedding DJ because lets be honest, hiring a DJ for your wedding is a big deal. The DJ is the one who will bring your day to life! They facilitate the music and get a shy crowd out and moving on the dance floor so you can party the night away! The key to finding the perfect DJ, or really any wedding vendor, is asking the right questions. 10 QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR WEDDING DJ

 

01. How would you describe your style?

When it comes to questions to ask your wedding DJ, this is a great place to start. You want to make sure their style fits yours and what you’re looking for in a DJ. The answer to this question can help dictate a lot about what exactly to expect from them!

02. Can we come to listen to you perform?

Of course, you don’t want to hire a DJ without seeing them perform in the same way you wouldn’t hire a photographer without seeing their work! See if there’s a way for you to take it a step further and see them perform in person.

03. Do you have all the gear required for our venue?

You want to make sure that they have everything that they need to avoid surprises or extra costs. Some venues will require different equipment varying on what they may or may not have readily available.

04. Can we have input on the playlist?

For most, especially music lovers, you’ll want a say in the playlist. Whether you want to keep it refined, solely play from a specific genre, or add in favorite songs, this is a great question to ask!

05. Do we need to rent any additional equipment?

If they don’t have all of the gear or if something is your responsibility, you’ll want to know about it beforehand! Be sure to find out about any hidden costs or rentals.

06. Do you use or provide dance floor lighting?

Another great way to use all your DJ has to offer is to ask about lighting! Best case, they’ll provide the lighting and if you want to invest that extra money into it, it saves you the hassle of having to find it from someone else!

07. How do you handle song requests?

You may prefer to not allow song requests, but if you do, you want to make sure it is done in an organized way that won’t put anything out of whack.

08. How many hours do you typically perform for?

When considering questions to ask your wedding DJ, you’ll also want to ask how many hours they perform to ensure they are available the full length of time that you’ll need them for!

09. Will you DJ and MC our event?

In most cases, DJs also MC the event, but if you are looking into a DJ that doesn’t, you’ll want to know so you can plan for that.

10. How do you motivate a shy crowd to dance?

Shy crowds happen and are, in fact, pretty common! Not everyone loves dancing and so finding someone who can warm up even the shyest of crowds is a must!
