Where do I even begin with this shoot? From the top I suppose.
Emily and I are best friends. Austin is like our third wheel 😉 All of Emily and Austin’s friends (including me!) have been patiently waiting for Austin to put a ring on it. 9 years in fact. Yes, 9. But when these two got engaged I’m pretty sure an angel got her wings 😉
When it came to their engagement photos, I knew I wanted to create something really special for them. Knowing I wouldn’t be able to be their wedding photographer (I get to be the MOH, score!), I wanted the chance to help document this part of their wedding journey. Now, pulling this off was quite the feat in and of itself. It was prime wedding season, most weekends were full and weather at Ruby Beach can change on a dime. We finally nailed down a day to jet out to the coast but let me tell you….I-5 south on a Friday afternoon is a royal nightmare. SO! Delayed by traffic, we had to bolt it on back roads out to the peninsula and arrived at Ruby beach with only 20 MINUTES OF LIGHT LEFT! That’s right, this whole shoot had to happen in 20 minutes.
We had to jump over huge creeks, drop our extra stuff and run to the water! These two were freaking rock stars! It was absolutely FREEZING even though it was June and Emily was such a champ in her tiny dress which did not offer much warmth. I can honestly say this is one of my favorite shoots of all time. Literally, all time. Not just because there is an epic story behind their creation, or the great results, but the fact that I got to take these for two of my most favorite people in the world.
Taking pictures and all that goes into it, does take time, patience, creativity and good ol’ elbow grease. But it never feels like work when you get to do it for the people you love. So thank you Emily and Austin, for letting me have the honor of photographing your engagement session. Love you both!
