There’s this really amazing new trend in the wedding world and I have to tell you about it! We all know that Instagram has been flooding our screens with picture-perfect images of brides and grooms during their wedding days that look like something out a movie or magazine. But, when you think about your own wedding day, you don’t have 2-3 hours to venture out to another location, shoot some amazing golden hour portraits and then get back to your party, am I right?
SO! Here is what couples are doing now: A Day After Bridal Portrait Session. It’s another day, scheduled at some point after the wedding (not always literally the day after) where you can get dressed up once again! Aaron and Krystle flew in from New York to celebrate with friends and family at the Columbia Winery. Thankfully they had some extra time during their stay after the wedding and we were able to pencil in an adventure bridal session. We chose to head to Deception Pass up near Whidbey. The drive may have been long, but it was SO worth it. I’m so excited to share these images with you and a few more reasons why YOU should definitely consider one when planning your wedding.

You Can Go To Your Dream Location
A big perk to day-after bridal sessions is you can go to nearly any location without a worry about getting your dress dirty. You’ve already had the big day celebration where your dress (or tux!) was in perfect condition, now is the time to be adventurous and embrace all that nature has to offer. This means you can pick any location you love. Mountains, fields, cliffs, nothing is off-limits. Just be safe <3
More Celebration Time as Newlyweds
In addition to picking a dream location, day-after bridal sessions allow you to spend more concentrated time together. You’ll be all dolled up and not having to worry about time, guests, family or any of the other 1.2 million things we think about on a wedding day. These sessions are laid back, easy-going, and usually include snack breaks 😉 YUM-O!!
For Krystle, she worn yoga pants and sneakers underneath her dress to make her more mobile while climbing around on rocks and across rough terrain. Pretty sweet right? Her skirt was long enough to where you couldn’t tell at all! This helped her be comfortable and aided in her venturous spirit to all the best spots.
You Get to Enjoy a More Relaxed Pace
Not to mention, during your day after bridal session, we can take breaks, pause, relax, snack or even wait for the light to get just right. For this session, we had a few cloud banks that would roll over the sunset, giving us a variety of light. We were able to take our time, wait for the clouds to pass and even embrace them for a few creamy dreamy pastel shots!
Lastly, you get to have another romantic evening together. Well, plus me 😉 But I can totally find another vantage point if you prefer some seclusion.
For this session, we ended with a bottle of wine…and some chips & guac (not photographed here haha). After snapping our last few shots, we sat together as a group (our amazing hair and makeup artist Jessica Rockwell was with us too!) and drank in the twilight hour over the coast. Such an amazing time with a very incredible couple. It just felt like friends having an adventure….and getting a few insanely gorgeous shots along the way.
